Our History: Sanderson Ford in Glendale, AZ Since 1955
Sanderson Ford has served Glendale and the greater Phoenix area since May 1st, 1955, when Don Sanderson bought Glendale Motors and opened Don Sanderson Ford. We’ve grown from one Grand Avenue lot into a full Ford dealership with an 80-bay service center, guided by the philosophy “The Dealership That Service Built!”
Who was Don Sanderson?
Don Sanderson (January 6, 1913 – December 14, 1985) was born in Mesa and moved to the Glendale area at age six. After serving in the South Pacific during World War II, he returned to his service station and used car lot at Central and Camelback in Phoenix. In 1950 he sold the business and became a new car and truck salesman at Madison Motors in downtown Phoenix. Within five years he had earned every sales achievement award Ford Motor Company offered, which led him to buy Glendale Motors on May 1st, 1955
Our Timeline
- 1955: Don Sanderson buys Glendale Motors, which opens as Don Sanderson Ford at 5630 NW Grand Avenue in Glendale, AZ
- 1964: The dealership relocates to 5300 NW Grand Avenue in Glendale, AZ
- 1985: After Don’s passing, “Don” is dropped from the name and we become Sanderson Ford, Inc. David Kimmerle becomes Owner and CEO
- 1990: We open our service center on Maryland Avenue, with 80 bays and 65,000 square feet of air-conditioned space
- 1992: Our current showroom and offices open on 51st Avenue
